The recent post in the IDAHO CAPITOL SUN has raised some questions about the safety of the Mackay Dam and if the City of Mackay has an emergency plan should the worst case scenario happen.
The first emergency plan for response to such a dam disaster was issued by the City in 1983 following the Mt. Borah Earthquake. This plan has been revised several times over the years and the current version of the plan is included in the City of Mackay Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). See Emergency Implementation Plan 7 -Flooding, found on page 66.
The entire EOP is posted on the City's webpage for your review at www.mackayidaho-city.com . The EOP has also been provided to Custer County Disaster Services for incorporation into the County's planning.
